Nice, good before and after shots.
I sometimes think about this, but then think "nah, this rod and I earned that grime"
But it sure makes it look brand spanking new!
Thanks!

That's pretty neat but I like the dirty looking ones. It's patina.

Looks great Jim, those things work awesome on boat stains that other cleaners will not touch.

Thanks guys, it's just something I found interesting and it worked really well.
GH and Bron you both like em dirty cuz you're both old and covered in patina too.
Ya got me Tony.. when the handles get dirty they feel icky and I MUST replace them! lol
Tom - I got a bunch of rods that "earned" that grime with me. I took 2 brand new rods to TX with me this year, we were there for 4 days. When we got done they looked like I had them 10 years! lol

Now that it's clean you could go the extra mile and seal the cork with cork sealer. [log in for link]
Then all you have to do is wipe it down with a wet wash rag in the future.

AWB- cool info, thanks. This post reminded me that I have some old cork putter grips that need attention.

The best & fastest way to to clean cork handles is with soap and water with the kitchen sponge that has the scrubber pad on one side, plus it doesn't dry out the cork as bad. it only takes about a minute per rod

Skookshunter - that's awesome I do believe that may be next on my list!
Rich - are you saying the soap and water doesn't dry out the cork as bad as the magic eraser? Is this something you experienced? After I cleaned the handles I wiped them down with a towel and also since the magic eraser is wrung out, the handles weren't even wet. It also only takes about a minute with this technique. I'll probably try your technique sometime this week. Like the idea of not having to buy anything extra.

Hey Skookshunter - so I bought the U-40 and did a couple handles with the sealer. I think I might like this. I couldn't discern a noticeable difference in feel of the cork when done. Here is a before and after pics. The only real difference is the cork got just a tiny bit darker. Thank you for introducing me to the product
